Sourdough Peanut Butter Dog Treats

β€œMy dog loved these so much she ate 1/3 of them while I was out running an errand.”

I would love more FREE recipes and tips straight to my IN BOX!

These peanut butter dogs treats have earned the seal of approval from Mocha πŸ•, our Australian cattle dog. Bentley, our Australian Shepherd, likes them as well, but he was in Dad's office at the time of the food theft so we know who the guilty party was. πŸ˜‚

Prep Time: 15 min

Cook Time: 20 min

Ingredients

  • 285g Sourdough Discard

  • 2 Eggs

  • 150g Peanut Butter, (1/2 cup)

  • 200g Pumpkin Puree, (1 cup)

  • 100g Oatmeal, (1cup)

  • 240g Whole Wheat Flour, (1-3/4 cup); plus more for rolling out the treats

Preparation Steps

1. Preheat the oven to 350ΒΊ F. and line two baking pans with parchment paper. (My baking sheets are stoneware so I just put them directly on the baking sheet.)

2. In the bowl of your stand mixer with the paddle blade attachment, pour sourdough starter, eggs, peanut butter, pumpkin puree, oatmeal and flour.

3. Mix on stir until just combined. Turn up to speed 2 and mix for 1 minute.

4. Lightly flour a work surface with whole wheat flour. Pat or roll the dough out to about 3/8" thickness. Cut into shapes with a cookie cutter or biscuit cutter or cut into squares with a knife. You may want to flour your biscuit cutters first so they don't get stuck in the dough.

5. To make the paw prints, use a chop stick. Poke the large end of the chop stick into the dough for the pad of the paw. Using the small end of the chop stick, poke 4 indents for the toes.

6. Bake for 20 minutes.

7. Cool and refrigerate or freeze for longer storage.

NOTE:
I would recommend freezing half so they don't go bad before your dog gets a chance to earn them. (Unless your dog is like mine and eats 1/3 of them in one sitting.) πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
